X-ray monochromators. Devices and crystals.

Bartels monochromator

Bartels monochromator (+, -, -, +) is intended for using as a component of a high resolution diffractometer for the investigation of single crystals and epitaxial layers. It forms a beam from X-ray tube or a multilayer mirror with a very small divergence and spectrum width. Compact design and a simplicity of mounting makes this device very convenient for modernization of old diffractometers, initially not completed by a Bartels monochromator.

Disign of monochromator includes two independently adjusting rotation devices whith a tilt mechanismes for two channel-cut crystals. There are two base versions, which use double reflections 220 and 440 from a Ge crystal. Other versions are available by request.

Diffracted beam analyzer with a channel-cut Ge(220/440) crystal

This compact analyzer block is designed for mounting on a goniometer detector arm in front of detector. This provides an easy conversion of a double-crystal diffractometer into a high-resolution triple-crystal one. The channel-cut analyzer crystal is cut from a high-perfection Ge and is adjustable for 220 or 440 reflections from 220 crystal planes. This provides the angular bandwidths either 12 or 5 angular seconds correspondingly. The lateral shift of the output beam relative the input one does not exceed 4 mm, that eliminates the need to adjust the detector position when changing from a slit system to crystal analyzer.

The analyzer is easy to align. Markers on the crystal rotation axis roughly define the 220 and 440 positions. Thumb-wheel with a micrometer screw provides smooth and stable fine adjustment.

This analyzer is a perfect companion to the Bartels monochromator (see above). Used together, they provide high resolution and a high intensity at the same time.
